Why churches

Health is Part of Caring for the Whole Person and Churches Have Always Known That.

In Black, Latino, immigrant, and historically underserved communities, the church has long served as the place where information about wellbeing actually travels through trusted relationships, not pamphlets. HealthViber partners with churches because that’s where the work needs to happen.

1

Type 2 diabetes is a community-scale issue.

It runs in families. It clusters in neighborhoods. Treating it one-on-one in a clinic misses the truth it's a community condition that benefits from a community response.

2

Churches reach who clinics don't.

Many members of your congregation may not have insurance, a primary care doctor, or trust in the healthcare system. They have you. We work alongside that trust never instead of it.

3

The room is already there. The trust is already there.

Sunday worship, Wednesday bible study, women's groups, men's fellowships your congregation already gathers. We meet your members where they're already showing up.

How the partnership works

Four Steps. We Do the Heavy Lifting.

From a 30-minute call with our partnerships team to a running cohort takes about 4-6 weeks. The church doesn’t pay anything, doesn’t take legal liability for the program, and doesn’t need to provide medical expertise.

1

30-minute call

We meet with you (and any health ministry leaders) to learn about your congregation, your goals, and what format makes sense.

Week 1
2

Facilitator match

We assign a Facilitator who fits your community language, cultural fit, geographic proximity for in-person.

Weeks 2–3
3

Announcement & enrollment

We co-design materials for your bulletin, social channels, and Sunday announcements. Members enroll directly with us.

Weeks 3–5
4

Sessions begin

Your cohort starts. We handle everything curriculum, scheduling, billing, member support. You don't lift a finger after this.

Week 6
Two ways to host

In-person at your church, or virtually with a Facilitator who fits.

Each church chooses the format that works for their members. Both options are available, both deliver the full 50-session program, and members can switch between them.

In-person

At your church.

A Facilitator comes to your building once a week.

What you need to provide

  • A room that holds 8–12 people comfortably
  • Chairs in a circle or U-shape (table optional)
  • Wi-Fi (helpful but not required)
  • A consistent 60-minute weekly slot

What we provide

  • A nurse Facilitator who travels to your church
  • All curriculum materials
  • Refreshments setup (we cover light snacks)
  • Backup virtual sessions if weather affects in-person

Best for: congregations with strong in-person gathering culture and geographic proximity to one of our Facilitators.

Virtual

Wherever your members are.

Group video sessions hosted by a Facilitator anywhere in the country.

What members need

  • A phone, tablet, or computer with internet
  • A quiet space for 60 minutes per week
  • That's it

What we provide

  • Video platform with phone dial-in for members without smartphones
  • Same Facilitator each week they learn your members
  • Access to Spanish-speaking Facilitators regardless of location
  • Tech support included

Best for: congregations where members live far from each other, work odd hours, or where in-person isn't logistically possible.

What your church provides and what we provide

A clear division of responsibility. Both sides know what they're signing up for.

No surprises. No hidden expectations. Here’s exactly what the partnership asks of your church and exactly what we take care of.

Your church provides

  • A trusted relationship with your congregation
  • One designated point of contact (often a health ministry leader)
  • Space to announce the program (bulletins, Sunday announcements, social channels)
  • If in-person: a 60-minute weekly meeting space
  • Permission to use your church's name in our partnership listings (with your approval of how)

We provide everything else

  • A credentialed nurse Facilitator (DCES or RN)
  • All curriculum, workbooks, and materials
  • Member enrollment, billing, and support
  • Insurance and liability for the program itself
  • Marketing materials co-designed with your church's voice
  • Quarterly reports on participation (no personal health information shared)
  • Ongoing communication with your designated contact

What we will NEVER ask of your church: money, fundraising, doctrinal alignment, exclusive endorsement, or any obligation that conflicts with your ministry. The program is offered to your members. They participate as individuals. You remain the church.

Cost to members

$39 a month for the full program.

Members of your congregation pay individually. The church pays nothing. We’ve kept the price low because we built the program for communities like yours.

What members pay — and what they get.

$39 /monthLess than $1.30 a day · HSA & FSA eligible · No contracts

For $39/month, each member receives: 50 weekly live education sessions over 12 months · a personal nurse Facilitator who knows their name · habit tracking and progress reports · all program materials · access to our app · the ability to cancel anytime.

Members can pause or cancel anytime. No contracts, no long-term commitments. If $39 isn't right for a particular member, our team will discuss HSA/FSA options, employer wellness benefits, or in genuine hardship cases community-sponsored access through our foundation. Cost should never be the only reason someone goes without care.

What members actually receive

Education, support, and a nurse who learns their story.

50 weekly sessions

60 minutes a week. A real curriculum that moves from learning to building to practicing to sustaining.

A nurse who stays

Same DCES or RN Facilitator for the full 12 months. By month 6, they don't need a chart to remember your story.

Scope of practice

An important clarification for pastors and church leaders.

Clinical boundary

What this program is and isn't.

Living in Control™ is a nurse-led education program. Our nurses are DCES or RN-credentialed educators. They teach members about diabetes, help them build habits, and support them with accountability. They do not diagnose, prescribe, change treatment plans, or recommend specific medications or supplements. Members' doctors stay in charge of their care and the program is designed to help members have better conversations with those doctors. Your church is hosting an education program, not a clinic.

What they do

  • Teach about diabetes
  • Help members build habits
  • Provide accountability
  • Help members prep for doctor visits
  • Help members understand their numbers

What they don't do

  • Diagnose any condition
  • Prescribe medications
  • Recommend supplements
  • Change treatment plans
  • Replace doctors
Church partnership FAQs

Questions pastors and health ministry leaders actually ask.

Will HealthViber try to convert our members to something financially, doctrinally, or otherwise?

No. We’re a secular health education program. We don’t proselytize, don’t push doctrinal positions, don’t pressure members to buy products beyond the membership itself, and don’t use your member list for anything beyond the program. Your members hear about HealthViber once through your church and from then on it’s their relationship with us. We don’t market other products to them through your channel.

What does the church take on legally?

Almost nothing. HealthViber carries the professional liability and program insurance. Members enroll directly with us there’s no member-church-HealthViber contract. The only thing we ask is that the church space (if in-person) is safe and accessible. Your church is essentially providing a meeting room and helping spread the word about a program your members can choose to join. We can share our partnership agreement template with your legal counsel before signing anything.

What if our church can't afford $39/month for every member?

The church doesn’t pay anything members pay individually. If individual members can’t afford $39/month, we have several paths: HSA/FSA reimbursement (most members qualify), employer wellness benefits (we can help members check), and in genuine hardship cases, community-sponsored access through our foundation. No one is turned away from our partnership churches purely for financial reasons.

What denominations and faith traditions do you work with?

All of them. We currently partner with Black church traditions (National Baptist, AME, COGIC), Latino Catholic and Pentecostal congregations, mainline Protestant churches (Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran), non-denominational and evangelical churches, and select interfaith communities. The program is secular and adapts to your congregation’s culture and language — we don’t impose doctrinal frameworks of any kind.

How many members do we need to start a cohort?

A cohort is 8-12 members. If you have fewer than 8 interested members initially, we can either combine your members with members from another nearby partner church (with everyone’s permission), or wait until enrollment reaches the minimum. We don’t run cohorts smaller than 8 because the group dynamic is part of what makes the program work.

Do you have Spanish-speaking Facilitators?

Yes. We have multiple Spanish-speaking Facilitators across the country who run Spanish-language cohorts. For partner churches with Spanish-speaking congregations, we’ll match a Facilitator who not only speaks the language but understands the cultural context food, family structures, work patterns that affect how habits get built. Spanish-language materials are also fully available.

What if a member has a medical emergency during a session?

Our Facilitators are credentialed nurses (DCES or RN) and are trained in basic emergency response. The standard protocol for any member medical emergency is: call 911 immediately, provide basic first aid if appropriate, contact the member’s emergency contact, document the incident. This applies to virtual sessions too if a member shows signs of distress on a video call, the Facilitator stops the session and walks them through getting help. We carry insurance to cover these scenarios.

Will you share information about our members back to us?

Only with their explicit permission. Members can opt in to having their church receive aggregated, anonymous participation reports (“12 members from your church attended sessions this month”). We never share individual member health information, attendance, progress, or personal data back to the church without that specific member’s written permission. The relationship between a member and their Facilitator is private same as it would be with any healthcare educator.
